Californians Ed Watson and Derence Kernik have been together for 40 years, but Ed has been been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and the couple is desperately hoping to marry while he can still recognize Derence. In a totally fucking related development, today the American Family Associationdenounced attempts to have the stay on Prop 8 lifted, using the headline, “Patience Is Not A Homosexual Virtue.”
[…]I want to cry. If I was not at work, I’m sure I would be. One of my grandmothers had Alzheimer’s. It’s a terribly depressing disease to see someone you love deteriorate every day. Eventually they become something like a shell of the person you once knew them to be. I really, really hope these men can get married before Ed gets worse.
This is absolutely killing me. My grandmother is slowly deteriorating due to Altzheimer’s (she’s in the last stage now), and god, what a shitty, horrible way to go. I would rather be killed instantly or die of the worst cancer known to man that drag my loved ones through this long battle. It is so much more than forgetting who you are. It effects every single motor capacity, every muscle in the body, every fiber of thought. No one knows how bad it is until they’ve been through it. Much love to these two gentleman. I hope they get what they dream of, because they have a long battle ahead of them.
Awful, simply awful. I don’t know how people can be so completely cruel like this! Makes me angry. >:(
These poor people… :’

My grandmother had Alzheimer’s, and it’s one of my biggest fears. This is no joke, these two don’t have the time to wait...
